Artist Spotlight: MillionYoung (again)
by Monica on January 19, 2010
Some time ago, I blogged about MillionYoung when he released his first EP, Sunndreamm. Since then, his tropical, shoegaze-inspired beats have been reviewed and mentioned all over the place, including Pitchfork (three whole times), who gave his track, "Weak Ends," a [whopping] 7/10! Today, he's released his second EP, Be So True, and will be performing at SXSW this coming March. Listen to his latest gem, available for download above. It sounds like having synesthesia - the kind where you associate music with colors - or surfing a dance floor in a dreamy, drunken haze, or viewing it through some Vaseline-covered lens, the track's starry, fey (albeit thumping) bass breaking down before building itself back and then collapsing, wonderfully, gracefully, all over again.
MillionYoung is playing on March 11th at Glasslands, March 12th at Pianos and March 17th at SXSW.
